Visiting Naples Botanical Gardens

Wherever we’re at, we love visiting a botanical garden. They are peaceful, beautiful, and a wonderful way to connect with nature. Naples Botanical Garden definitely fits all of those things. With 170 acres of beautifully cared for space, it’s an activity to add to your list whether you’re a local or on vacation. Here are some important details to make sure you have a great visit.

Some basics –

  • It’s located just a few miles from downtown Naples. While there is public transportation available, it’s easiest to drive there. They have plenty of free parking available, so space won’t be an issue.
  • Hours vary by season, closing at 2pm in summer (June 1 to September 30) Honestly, it’s just too hot to be out there late afternoon in the summer and you have more of a chance of rain.
Beautiful spots all over the gardens to take a moment and just breathe
  • There is a charge for admission to the garden, but it’s important to always check for discounts. This summer all children under 17 are free! They also offer summer resident discounts.

How to see the gardens –

  • If this is your first visit, we recommend taking one of their daily tours. Going early and starting your day with this 30 minute tour will give you a detailed look at an area of the gardens, as each day has a theme. It is included with admission, so it’s definitely worth taking advantage of this perk. Space is limited, so ask if spots are available when you purchase your ticket. Tour times and availability may vary during season, so make sure to check what’s available for your visit.
  • For a more in-depth tour, guided electric cart tours are available. This 45 minute tour gives you a bit of a behind the scenes look their Evenstad Horticultural Campus, but it also saves you some walking! There is an additional fee for this this (currently $35 for non-members). However, it could be a great way for someone with mobility issues to see the gardens or save yourself a bit from the heat.
  • The gardens are also very easy to navigate on your own, so grab a map when you buy your ticket and plot out your route. There is the main section with different gardens, as well as paved and unpaved trails around the lakes. If you follow all the paths, you could get about 2 miles of walking in!

Other info for your visit –

  • Make sure to plan lunch at the gardens. Fogg Café is a fast casual option close to the Visitor Center, open all day. Every time we’ve stopped in we’ve had a great experience. The food and service has always been excellent. The menu changes seasonally and they have specials for events throughout the year.
  • They have great activities for adults and children included with admission throughout the day. Make sure to check the daily schedule to see what is happening when you’re there. And if you’ve missed the scheduled activities, ask for a Wonder activity packet before heading into the gardens to add some activities on your own.
  • There are many special events included during the year. Last November we went for the Dia de los Muertos Celebration and it was such a wonderful day! They had fabulous musical performances, dancers, arts & craft stations, local vendors – so much added to the weekend. There were some add on events as well, but it was amazing what was included with admission. Check their calendar so you don’t miss anything.
  • On a practical note – unless it’s winter, it will be hot walking around the garden. While they have areas of shade, many of the walkways are not covered. Bring a refillable water bottle – they have a couple of touchless water filling stations.
  • As you leave, make sure to stop in the gift shop. They have so many wonderful items. A perfect place for gifts for anyone who loves gardening or nature.
